What TorqTaper Plus units are available now?
Sizes 107, 115, 203, 207, 215, 307, 315, 407, 415, 507, 608 and 800 are available today.
-
Are the current TorqTaper shaft mounts still available?
No. Replacement parts are available as made to order products.
-
How does the physical size of the new TorqTaper Plus compare with the TorqTaper?
Height and Width are the same. The length through bore is slightly longer. However, you only need the same available shaft as the previous design. Optimal shaft mounting would be with a through shaft to utilize the stabilizing ring, but it is not necessary.
-
Can you use the current TorqTaper bushing in the new TorqTaper Plus and vice versa?
Yes. The basic bushing is the same. The TorqTaper Plus bushing kits include a bronze-stabilizing ring. This can be discarded if the TorqTaper Plus bushing kit is purchased for a TorqTaper reducer.
-
How does the published pricing on the TorqTaper Plus compare with the TorqTaper?
The published pricing is the same. The torque arm kit is now priced separately (and must be ordered separately) but the sum price of the reducer and torque arm is the same as the previous design. This is true for accessories as well.
-
How does the rating of the new TorqTaper Plus compare?
Ratings have increased 15 to 30% over the previous design and in many cases down sizing is possible.
-
Are the new TorqTaper Plus motor mounts interchangeable with the previous units?
Yes, with some field modifications. However, the new motor mounts offer several significant improvements. They are more rigid and the motor base is slotted to simplify belt drive alignment. In addition, a motor mount assembly is now 3 pieces to offer improved inventory flexibility and allow for side-mount as well as traditional top-mount. See catalog for details.
-
How do the input shaft diameters compare?
The new TorqTaper Plus input shaft diameters are larger on most sizes.
-
Does the new TorqTaper Plus mounting system require special tools to install the reducer?
No. The endcap, bushing and stabilizer ring may be installed and removed with basic tools. The threaded end-cap needs to be only hand tightened.
-
The tapered stabilizer ring provides wobble free benefits. Explain how this is accomplished.
As the end cap is installed, it forces the tapered stabilizer ring into the tapered quill bore and clamps the shaft - like a second bushing.
-
Do I need to regrease the barrier seal system?
No. The barrier seal system is greased for life. Some initial purging (especially on the input) is normal and should be expected. This will stop when excess grease is purged (after a few hours of running).
-
Are the bearings, seals and flinger readily available from any local distributor?
Bearings and seals are standard and commercially available. Flingers are available from Power Transmission Solutions as part of a prepackaged seal kit.
-
Can the backstop for the TorqTaper be used on the new TorqTaper Plus and vice versa?
No.
-
Are the screw conveyor adapters, waste pack and packing gland cartridges the same as existing SMT design?
No.
-
The screw conveyor drive shaft is designed for TorqTaper Plus. Does this mean the current drive shaft will not fit the TorqTaper Plus or vice versa?
Existing screw conveyor shafts will not fit new unit because of longer length.
-
The motor base nomenclature does not make any reference to motor frame size. Why?
The motor bases will accept multiple motor frames. Frame sizes are indicated in catalog.
-
How are the minimum shaft lengths required to mount the TorqTaper Plus compared with competition?
Since we use a single bushing mountable on the backside, we can mount on a short shaft extension - same as our previous design.
-
Is the "Barrier" seal system available on the 407 through 608 and 800 units?
Yes. The new B series has incorporated the Barrier seal system for additional gearbox protection.
-
Is the reverse mount bushing system available on the 407 through 608 and 800 units?
No. These units mount with the patented single bushing design. The new B series will accommodate a stabilizer ring.
-
Do I need to order 3 separate components for the 407 through 608 and 800 motor mounts?
Yes. The motor mount system requires 3 components: Motor Mount Supports, Motor Mount Adapter and Motor Base. The 407 through 608 and 800 motor mounts can not be mounted on the side.
