Morse Increases Uptime for Lime Processing Plant
|

Extremely fast delivery and superior product performance convinced a
national lime processing company in Missouri that a Morse MG750 overrunning
clutch was just what they needed. The facility uses an overrunning clutch
as part of the auxiliary kiln drive. The clutch is located between the worm
box and the parallel shaft kiln drive unit and is used when the plant loses
electric power so the kiln continues to rotate while cooling down.

Maintenance engineers noticed the existing clutch was failing, so they
called a clutch supplier and were quoted a 16 week lead time for a replacement
unit. The engineers determined the risk of the main drive failing was too
great, so they called Emerson Power Transmission for assistance. Norm Patterson,
Senior District Manager for Emerson Power Transmission, advised the engineers to specify a
MG750 clutch, which fit the application envelope. The clutch was ordered
through Kaman Industrial Technologies – an EPT distributor. Kaman had the clutch in stock and shipped
it immediately. In less than a week, the clutch was installed on the kiln drive
during an unexpected shutdown. The company was extremely pleased by Emerson’s responsiveness
and the clutch has been running for six months without issue.
