Large Scale Vegetable Canning Company Chooses PN Gold Bearings

Harvest is an extremely busy time at one of the largest beet and green bean canning plants in Wisconsin. For three months straight, processing equipment runs non-stop to can the freshly picked vegetables.

In the past, plant inspectors determined that when competitors’ bearings were used, grease was leaking onto the vegetable conveyors. Although it was food grade grease, inspectors were unhappy with the appearance of grease leaking directly onto the conveyor belt.

Maintenance engineers spent the next season experimenting with bearings from several manufacturers’ to determine which brand would deliver the best performance during the busiest time of their production cycle.

Working with Emerson Power Transmission and Kaman Industrial, maintenance staff selected Sealmaster® PN Gold lubed-for-life bearings as one of the test bearings. After testing against several competitors, Sealmaster PN Gold outperformed them all. PN Gold lubed-for-life bearings eliminated the lubrication process and met the performance needs of the vegetable canning company.

PN Gold lubed-for-life bearings feature a patented High Performance Seal (HPS) with multi directional, triple contact lips and a 300 Series stainless steel flinger that reduces incoming contamination and improves overall bearing life.

A high strength, reinforced, composite housing delivers high load capacity. The housing features solid base construction and a smooth, easy-to-clean finish with minimal gaps and no fillings, allowing fewer places for bacteria to grow.

The plant is in the process of replacing the conveyor bearings in the Wisconsin facility with PN Gold lubed-for-life bearings and has recommended the bearings to other company plants.
